But forcing other people to be part of the hate-watch community when they just want to meet other fans is so childish and borderline bullying.

DA. And telling haters to go away isn't childish?

And where is this forcing coming in? Who is forcing anyone to do anything?

You don't have to talk to haters, you can scroll past their comments, if they reply to you depending on where you are you can block them.

Large fandom communities will never be without haters, the only communities I've ever been a part of that were peaceful were very small communities, if you want to be a part of larger fandom you have to deal with things you don't like.

If said haters are themselves acting like assholes and bringing everyone else down, telling them to gtfo is the most reasonable thing to do. You don't actually have a god-given right to behave like a child in public and just expect everyone else to silently put up with it and scroll, sorry.

Behaving like an asshole is a separate issue from hate-watching in my opinion though, someone could love a series inside and out and still act like an asshole to other fans.

This is why most communities have rules about behavior in said communities- most of the time it is accepted that dissing a series is fine but dissing an individual member is not to be tolerated and they will receive the boot.

I do not insult other people when I give negative reviews, but often times people will insult ME back.

And sorry, but this is the internet, there are trolls, there are assholes, and sometimes you do just need to scroll. It's not for the sake of the asshole, but for the sake of yourself, because if you truly do not enjoy negativity or arguing- then you will not enjoy any responses you get from someone you consider to be an asshole.

This is what is actually wrong with the internet: the fact that everyone is like, "oh, it's completely acceptable to be a piece of shit."

It's not. I don't care if you're anonymous. I don't care if you're on YouTube. It should not be okay to be an asshole, and the response to assholes should not be to throw one's hands up and go, "oh well, we're online." Either the way people treat one another matters, or it doesn't.

You're kind of getting past hate-watching and into "this is what is wrong with humanity."

I agree that it's not okay to be an asshole, but you can't stop it in every case. You have to pick and choose your battles.

And my problem is more that people don't all AGREE about what is considered rude and what isn't (just look at this thread) so I have trouble agreeing that we should just kick certain people out of fandom or we should just shut down certain discussions all together.

One person's asshole is another's best friend... I'm sure I could have said that more poetically but there it is.

It's like you're all forgetting how fucking huge fandoms are. It's not hard to ignore each other, even in the smaller fandoms.

Someone hating on or criticising a show/aspect of a show is no more childish than someone waxing lyrical over it. You need to get over that.
