You want to hate-watch. Rock on. You want to whine about the same thing week in and week out and especially, insult the fans who watch the show because they like the show simply for the reason that they do like the show, go away. continue to rock on.

Because this is fandom, and we do what we want. Sorry to rain on your parade, but you don't get hater-free spaces. Try if you want with your own community, but you'll find it's way too much effort for too little reward in reality. /not a hater

(Anonymous) 2013-02-17 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
But forcing other people to be part of the hate-watch community when they just want to meet other fans is so childish and borderline bullying.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-17 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
DA. And telling haters to go away isn't childish?

And where is this forcing coming in? Who is forcing anyone to do anything?

You don't have to talk to haters, you can scroll past their comments, if they reply to you depending on where you are you can block them.

Large fandom communities will never be without haters, the only communities I've ever been a part of that were peaceful were very small communities, if you want to be a part of larger fandom you have to deal with things you don't like.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-17 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
If said haters are themselves acting like assholes and bringing everyone else down, telling them to gtfo is the most reasonable thing to do. You don't actually have a god-given right to behave like a child in public and just expect everyone else to silently put up with it and scroll, sorry.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-17 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Behaving like an asshole is a separate issue from hate-watching in my opinion though, someone could love a series inside and out and still act like an asshole to other fans.

This is why most communities have rules about behavior in said communities- most of the time it is accepted that dissing a series is fine but dissing an individual member is not to be tolerated and they will receive the boot.

I do not insult other people when I give negative reviews, but often times people will insult ME back.

And sorry, but this is the internet, there are trolls, there are assholes, and sometimes you do just need to scroll. It's not for the sake of the asshole, but for the sake of yourself, because if you truly do not enjoy negativity or arguing- then you will not enjoy any responses you get from someone you consider to be an asshole.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-18 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
This is what is actually wrong with the internet: the fact that everyone is like, "oh, it's completely acceptable to be a piece of shit."

It's not. I don't care if you're anonymous. I don't care if you're on YouTube. It should not be okay to be an asshole, and the response to assholes should not be to throw one's hands up and go, "oh well, we're online." Either the way people treat one another matters, or it doesn't.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-18 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
You're kind of getting past hate-watching and into "this is what is wrong with humanity."

I agree that it's not okay to be an asshole, but you can't stop it in every case. You have to pick and choose your battles.

And my problem is more that people don't all AGREE about what is considered rude and what isn't (just look at this thread) so I have trouble agreeing that we should just kick certain people out of fandom or we should just shut down certain discussions all together.

One person's asshole is another's best friend... I'm sure I could have said that more poetically but there it is.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-18 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's like you're all forgetting how fucking huge fandoms are. It's not hard to ignore each other, even in the smaller fandoms.

Someone hating on or criticising a show/aspect of a show is no more childish than someone waxing lyrical over it. You need to get over that.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-17 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT

Reread the bit you quoted. Specifically, "and especially, insult the fans who watch the show because they like the show simply for the reason that they do like the show." You really think insulting people for stupid reasons warrants a "continue to rock on"?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-17 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure do. Hence the "you don't get hater-free spaces" part. Jerks are a part of any fandom. Ban them if they bother you, or ignore them, but you don't get to dictate how people behave when they're part of a fandom. You're not fandom-God.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-17 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

Some days I'm surprised by the lack of basic courtesy online, then I remember some people think that insulting others just because is fun and completely ok because this is the Internet.

This is on of those days.

Still telling assholes to "rock on" is moronic. If you're making it miserable for everyone around you...you're making it miserable for everyone around you and should really knock it off.

But hey a lot of people on the internet believe in "waaaah but it's my RIGHT to be as rude as I want STOP OPPRESSING ME" as an extension of freedom of speech. They forget that the natural consequences of being an obnoxious pain are not forbidden by that.

Jerks will be jerks...but it shouldn't be encouraged.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-18 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, the community does get to dictate how people behave when they're a part of said community. That sort of collective agreement on acceptable social forms is kind of the basis of society and culture.

The problem with people like you is you think that the fact that the internet renders you anonymous means that you have the right to act like complete shits and break every norm and more in the book. In truth, it just makes it easier; it doesn't make it okay, and it doesn't mean that people can't strive to cordon you off and prevent you from poisoning their spaces.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-18 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Spoken like someone who only read one of the comments I posted. Geesh. I don't do that shit. I do not hate-watch, nor do I stalk fans into their safe spaces to bother them about minute details their pet shows got wrong. I just said that policing other fans about what they can and cannot say is largely a waste of time because you can't enforce any of these mandates. The end.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-18 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
doesn't matter if you're not a raging syphilitic cockhole yourself because you still support the ones who are

Sorry to rain on your parade, but you don't get hater-free spaces.

You can tell the haters to fuck off, though.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-18 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
People can also tell you to fuck off, but it never does any good. (Just an example--I am not involved in your anon hate club). I'm just saying that trying to police other fans is more exhausting than effective.
