No one is expected to enjoy all the "Classics". But saying "I don't like classics" doesn't make sense to me because it means "I don't like any book older than fifty and considered good by experts". "Classic" isn't a genre, isn't a style. Romeo and Juliet, Peter Pan, The Jungle Book, Pride and Prejudice, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Martian Chronicles ... all of them are classic and they couldn't be more different.

Like, the "classics" reading list for American High Schools? Makes perfect sense to hate them -- but all classics of their respective genres? No, OP, there's so much to be read! Go outside what your school tells you to/told you to read, and you'll find ~*~gems~*~. :D

/a student who hated the books assigned in school but who loves loves loves reading like everything else

I've been bitching about this all over the thread, so I might as well do so here: if your first exposure to a certain work is being assigned to read THIS chapter THIS week, and then in class you are taught how to interpret it 'correctly', you have a really awesome chance of being soured on it for life.
