I tried watching some of the documentaries in the Craft In America series on the PBS website.

I really enjoyed them. Not so subtle rec here ;)

wow, that looks right up my alley :) Is each episode about a specific topic or should I start with episode one? Being a needlecrafter I immediately wanted to watch the "Threads" episode first.

I've watched the first 3 and they've been pretty loosely themed, like the Community episode featured both a craft colony and a woman who made necklaces from discarded crack vials. There's no overarching story (or narration for that matter) so I'd say start with whatever one intrigues you.
