Re: Sexist/stereotypical things you still find hot/romantic

I started a femslash fic, and realized that while I'm kinda skeeved out if a man is much more physically powerful than the woman in a relationship... I totally love the idea of an obviously stronger (older) woman and her more fragile (younger) partner.

Actually, lots of stuff works for me between two gals that would creep me out in a het relationship. Is that hypocritical?

Yep, it's the same for me. There are quite a few tropes I side-eye in het but enjoy in femslash or slash.

(It's kind of the same in real life actually, there are quite a few gestures etc. that I find endearing and charming in another woman but would get a man a reply along the lines of "nope, I can do that myself, thank you very much. And you do know that your chances of getting anywhere with me just sank, don't you?")

This is actually my "sexist thing I still find hot." /o\ ...But only in fiction. I had a boyfriend who was much bigger than me once and I hated it.

Is that hypocritical?

Technically, yes. But given societal baggage, it's pretty damn understandable.

I'd say it can be more of a problem in the other direction: if a girl does X action that you would find creepy in a guy but you find it fine in a girl, you might be judging the girl too leniently, rather than judging the guy too harshly (due to all that other societal baggage about women being inherently ineffectual and passive).
