It's not shallow! Boobs are like snowflakes, and everybody likes to wear their breasts a little differently. I don't think it's out of place to ask people with experience in binding about it. In my case, traditional bras do absolutely nothing—most bras put their support underneath the breast, which is too low for me. I suffered through a few years of traditional bras, with the straps cinched all the way up or sometimes sewn up further, before I realized the problem wasn't my boobs, but the bras. So I switched to sports bras all the time. In fact, the bras I wear now are intended for women who have recently had mastectomies. (They are now discontinued from Soma. BOO. BOO!)

If your binder works for you, that's great! But if you ever want to explore bras that aren't underwire and useless for your shape, I recommend checking out post-surgical bras and stuff like Title 9.
