If I wanted to be even more pedantic -- oh, who am I kidding. Of course I do. Anyway, "ception" is a word root, so every time someone tacks it on as a suffix I start imagining where it could fit in the lineup of inception, conception, exception, deception, reception, interception, am I forgetting anything? [googles 'Latin prepositions'] ah yes, perception, contraception. I believe English doesn't have preception, but it does have precede.

...Really, though, as someone above pointed out, Reckless Suffix Misappropriation has been well established in English since the dawn of Scandalgate if not earlier, so I should probably get used to it -- especially as I can't suggest an equally catchy alternative.

...Technically, no, "ception" is not a root word. -tion is a derivational suffix that changes a verb to a noun. Ceive/cept/cap is a root meaning to take, or to use the word in its definition, to receive (I guess you could say "catch", but that's not quite accurate when you think of conception, etc). There is a word "precept", but it's a noun so you can't add -tion to it in "natural" English. Precede, however, is a totally different root word/meaning from the rest of these words. If someone is tacking on "-ception" after a word, they're creating...I guess it would be a compound word, since a separate noun can't technically be an affix in English. Or maybe a semi-prefix. Idek. I'm off-topic.

Reckless Suffix Misappropriation is actually how new languages and words-within-languages are formed, among other methods.
