Two main points of drama in the fandom (this got so long sorry, but I've been keeping tabs on the drama for a while now):

-There are a few people involved in the production of LBD on tumblr. Pretty much everyone in that chunk of the fandom knows their tumblr names and that they track related tags (lots of liking/reblogging things related to them.)

One of the people is the writer in charge of the Lydia storyline. She openly complained about how people wouldn't shut up about the Lizzie/Darcy plot, encouraged campaigns to get more Lydia videos, and told people who were most concerned about the sister's relationship that they were "watching the show right".

Well someone made a post joking about this tendency of hers. Idk if they tagged it with anything related or not, but two of the actresses (Lizzie and Lydia's) commented and told her that what she was doing wasn't cool.

This caused a veritable explosion. Debates arose about professionalism, and a bunch of people came forth to admit they did not feel safe criticizing the show (even untagged on their own blogs) for fear of one of the staff finding it. People also began to point out how having the creators active in the fandom can encourage a split between those who like the show one way and those who have Word of God that they're "doing it right".

- Being an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, it was always know that Lydia was going to have some sort of "fall" that came close to ruining her family and necessitated the intervention of Darcy.

As all well written characters do, Lydia had flaws. She's impulsive, doesn't always think before she speaks. She is said to get blackout drunk often (and for the first half of the series, she's 20). Her sisters need to babysit her frequently as she goes out to party. She steals Xanax from both her mother and the family she babysits for.

Before the last arc started, Lizzie and Lydia got in a fight and stopped watching each other's videos. Lizzie and Jane (the eldest sister) are both away from home, working on furthering their careers. Lydia ends up in a relationship with George Wickham, noted scumbag. There's a weird series of blogs dedicated to him emotionally abusing her and making her dependent on him because he's the only one that'll be there for here etc etc (all while every other character, despite not being in a fight with Lydia, aren't watching her videos)

This goes on for a few weeks when a site is put up advertising a sex tape of Lydia and George (with a countdown timer). Lizzie gets linked to the site and freaks out, rushing back home. We find out Lydia didn't know. George has disappeared.

Then there are a couple of melodramatic videos about how Lizzie ~didn't know her sister~ and she's soooo sorry. The problem presented is "there is a sex tape of Lydia" and "Lizzie looked down on her sister because she thought Lydia was a slut but Lydia wasn't actually a slut". Not "Lydia was emotionally abused." (in fact, the word abuse has never been said on the show or by any of the creators).

Also there was this weird moment where Lydia, on-screen said people who left comments wanting Lizzie's arc at Pemberly to go on longer as saying "Lydia ruins Lizzie's life", which is pretty transparently the writer going "you insult this, you make the character sad" which is all kinds of weird.

TL,DR:
- creators say "ur doin it wrong"
- interesting threads dropped, plot whitewashes a character's flaws and becomes melodramatic
