My first reaction to a suicide (even attempted one) is anger, which is horrible because everyone has right to do what they want with their lives. How can I judge someone when I don't know anything about their situantion, their past experience?

Well, the last thing they did while alive was to kill someone.

I realize it might sound like I'm trolling, but I'm serious. Think about it. A person losing their life isn't the only tragic thing when someone dies - they usually leave a bunch of people behind to grieve. Plus, someone has to take care of the body, make funeral arrangements, etc. Not a very nice thing to do to other people if you can avoid it.

On a slightly ... softer? note, anger is a common grief reaction. Something you (general) care about has been taken from you, and the loss hurts. No wonder if you get angry if it's somone you know/knew.

I'm exactly the same - I think suicide is such a selfish action
- and I know that makes me lacking in compassion and empathy and I dislike that about myself, but I hate it and I get angry and have no sympathy for the individual.

I think in part it's linked to the fact that in my life and my job role I have people who threaten suicide for attention and drama and who use it to try and get their way - ie one "friend" who tells his parents he's going to kill himself and then doesn't answer their calls for days and who has told me "heh! it's funny!".

In my job I see the fallout from suicide and it does make me mad.

to be frank it's because you're being selfish. selfishness is a huge problem in this world. try to put other people's feelings above your own, you might find yourself feeling less angry when other people are being selfish.
