Re: Non-fandom secrets
(Anonymous) 2013-02-19 01:44 am (UTC)(link)I hate it when portrayals of any marginalized group are really sad and "look at how horrible it is to be this person". I get they're trying to make a point it's just not a lesson that I need to learn.
Re: Non-fandom secrets
(Anonymous) 2013-02-19 02:01 am (UTC)(link)I mean, I agree with both of you that the pitiable portrayals of marginalized groups tends to piss the marginalized groups off more often than not (and the members of said groups have every right to be pissed off at such portrayals), but when there are still people out there who are nothing but assholes to the mentally ill because they think it's fake and done for attention...well, then some anvils need to be dropped. I don't know if it's effective or not, but I like to think it is, because it makes me rage a little less.
Re: Non-fandom secrets
(Anonymous) 2013-02-19 02:11 am (UTC)(link)Oh, I know. I get the point of it. I just wish there were more stories for me, that showed people like me having more to them than "the very special episode where we all feel bad about this tragic thing before going back to singing/crime-solving/drama next week." And honestly I think that might be more effective, too.
