You do get that the goth subculture first became a thing in the early 1980s, right? As in 30 years ago? Which means at least a few of these over-40 paranormal romance writers probably actually are goths, and have been since before you were born?

Not that I'd call a leather jacket and a silver necklace goth fashion, exactly, but the subculture isn't the sole province of people too young to recall the turn of the millennium.
