Re: Internet stalking
(If you have no idea what that was about, you should watch/read Death Note. I think you'd get a kick out of it.)
Tell me, what would you have done if this person had contacted you?
Because even if you don't have any creepy intentions when you do this, if they find out they're probably going to feel very creeped out regardless. I think it's because it disregards boundaries (I feel a little bit silly saying that, but anyway). People usually like to think they have some kind of control over which people know what things about them. You know those sexy pictures of the person you found hot? If they'd wanted people on the contact site to see them, they probably would have put them there. They didn't put them there, so they probably don't want users of the contact site to see them. If you didn't respect that boundary, why should they believe you'll respect other boundaries?
I don't mean to say you don't respect other boundaries. You probably do. But I don't find it strange at all that people get creeped out when they hear it, because you're describing acting in a way that tells people you can't be trusted, regardless if that's true or not.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-19 08:06 am (UTC)(link)this sums up everything pretty nicely, yeah
illusions of control make society work, op :V we play nice by respecting them
