I'm just sick of everything being about Moriarty.

There are some pairings where I can, in fact, picture them skipping happily through a field of flowers... as what remains of Washington DC smolders gently in the background. Ash clouds make for some fantastic sunsets, after all. The juxtaposition is what makes the fluffy romantic image work in the first place--but if enough people miss that memo, the results can be unintentionally and tooth-rottingly horrifying.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-20 03:43 am (UTC)(link)POWER. YOU COULD HAVE IT.
ALL OF IT.
WELL, ASIDE FROM WHAT OTHERS ARE TAKING, BECAUSE I'VE GOTTA MAKE A LIVING AND ALL, SO I CAN'T EXACTLY LIMIT MY BASE.
BUT IT'S A DECENT AMOUNT OF POWER. YOU COULD FUCK SHIT UP WITH IT, FOR REAL. OR JOIN UP WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE POWERS NOW, I DON'T GIVE A FUCK. YOU COULD FORM SOME KIND OF TEAM OR MAYBE JUST TAKE OVER THE WORLD OR WHAT FUCKING EVER.
ANYWAY, THERE'S THESE UNICORNS, SEE. AND SOME FUCKING TOLD 'EM THEY SHOULD DIE FOR NARNIA, BUT DIDN'T BOTHER TO TELL 'EM THAT THERE ISN'T A FUCKING NARNIA. FUCKING ASSHOLE. BUT THEY'RE DEAD NOW, WHETHER IT'S RIGHT OR WRONG, AND THERE'S ALL THIS UNICORN BLOOD, AND I CAN'T DO A THING WITH IT (ALREADY DRANK WHAT I COULD, BUT THERE'S LIMITS TO THIS SHIT, MAN). I'D LIKE TO GIVE YOU A BIT. THINK YOU'D DO WELL WITH IT.

I call it The Boba Fett Effect. Named after the bounty hunter in Return of the Jedi who had a screen time of five minutes back when the movie first came out but became a fan favorite for whatever reason. People went crazy creating back stories about who and what he was and what he did. The same thing happened with the characters in Twilight because they too are so paper thin. And we've seen this again in BBC's Sherlock because we've had only six episodes with no real back stories or character growth for any of the characters. People just fill in the rest.
Is it annoying? Can be. But it's harmless.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-20 12:56 am (UTC)(link)But yes, they are not fluffy or sweet or affectionate, they are fucked up psychos. That's what I like about them! They kill people and enjoy it. They are not going to be skipping down the street holding hands.
And I really am sick of seeing fucking Fassbender as Moran, he's not even blonde. But I think my headcanon Moran is used by just me.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-20 01:02 am (UTC)(link)(I only tend to use Fassbender because my first Moran RP partner used him, and he represents a certain kind of Moran for me. Otherwise I tend to picture CParks, but I love seeing all the different ones)

(Anonymous) 2013-02-20 01:00 am (UTC)(link)I don't have any problem with other people wanting fluff (I want it myself, on some days) but to turn around and try to attack people who are keeping the character IC for a change? Annoying as hell.

That's okay with me, as long as writers actually come up with a reason for why Thorin is now an amoral mercenary who works for Moriarty.
(Although the kink meme had a great shortfic where the snipers in the pool scene were Moran and his team... who were the rest of the Company. Moriarty was Sauron. Sherlock was, predictably for crossovers, Smaug.)
