I've never understood liking things 'ironically'. Just admit you like it even if it's 'bad' and move on.

But yeah, I like it too and dammit now it's in my head.

It's a hipster thing, I think.

OR. A sign of insecurity (I read an article not too long ago about how everything has become "ironic" because, out of fear of derision, people shy away from admitting that they like things).

Either way, it's dumb.

I like Phil Collins and early Christina Aguilera and a lot of '80s music that I shouldn't and, by the gods, I like "Never Gonna Give You Up."

I think it's probably mostly insecurity--though I think there's also an argument to be made for the whole hipster fad being rooted in insecurity itself--since this is just the newer version of people consuming things that are 'so bad it's good.'

I have Genie in a Bottle and Keeps Gettin Better on my iPod, plus a lot of stuff that people would probably think I should be embarrassed by. But if they want to get embarrassed because I lipsync to Taylor Swift not long after playing air guitar to Matchbox 20, that is not my hangup.
