So, I guess I'm the only one put off by this "freckles add so much character!" bullshit?

Freckles may be cute (in fact they are). They may be "exotic" to the nonfreckled but let's not give them magical make-better properties.

I don't have freckles and I honestly never gave them any thought. I don't think they're cute or ugly, but I just don't think I see many people with freckles.

I believe OP meant they added character because they're a unique quality most people don't have, when animated heroines tend to be all the same sort of pretty.

Frizzy hair, big noses, wide-spaced eyes, buckteeth etc could all be said to do the same thing. They make a character look more like a person than a cartoon.

Exotic? Aren't they fairly common? Most people I know have freckles to some extent and they aren't all of the same racial background, either.
