Pffft. Season 3 has been awesome so far. Last week's episode fucking rocked.

SERIOUSLY. Season three has been my favorite, even though it's also been breaking my heart. ;;;

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Season 3's an improvement over the second season but it's still all over the place.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Adding to the chorus of "this". Season 3 has been awesome now that they're finally off that damn farm and have remembered that there are zombies and other human groups to fight and a'int no one got time for other nonsense.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, right, I mean - aside from killing Dale off, turning Andrea from a kick-ass girl in her 20s (who makes a badass battle couple with Dale) to a whiny woman in her 30s/40s who REPEATEDLY makes bad decisions, turning Michonne into a shadow of her former self... But hey, as long as Daryl's still TOTES HAWT, everything's okay, right?

It's definitely different in tone now, but I still love TWD. Storytelling has to change to keep shows fresh though, and fans would complain if the show was still paced the way it was in season 1.

+1. Season one was excellent but I still find the show extremely entertaining and think season three is an improvement over season two. Actually, I think I like the show now more than I ever have. Not necessarily saying the episodes are better...but I'm more interested in what's going to happen.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
The scene where Rick sees the walker on the grass and says "I'm sorry this happened to you"; there's never been another like it on the show. 90% of the time zombies are just fodder to get killed in creative ways. Shame.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
It's hard to keep that fresh look on zombies if you're in danger because of them 24/7 and have seen people you love die because of them though.

I think it's understandable that the outlook of the characters (especially Rick who was only facing the walkers for the first time) & the feel of the series changed as time went on.

Maybe it's just because I marathoned the show since I've only found out about it recently, but I didn't see any real drop in the show's quality?

My friend and I were talking about this. She said, "It's good but it's just not scary anymore" and I realized yeah, it's true. It seems to happen with every "monster" franchise. There's really no way to replicate the newness of dealing with a strange and horrifying situation. It's why the first Jurassic Park is the best, too-- you never get another "They do move in herds" moment because you don't get to "discover" dinosaurs for the first time after that. They seem to just go for gross-out now instead on TWD.

Can I be that guy who comes in to talk about how amazing the game is? Seriously, the game's amazing.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
oh god yes, totally be that guy so i can talk about it too.

the relationship between Lee and Clem made me so happy and so damn sad at the same time, jesus.

Yes, be that guy :D

I love the game, not just for Lee and Clem, but the whole world of the game. It felt fresh and new, even though zombies have been done to death (pun wholeheartedly intended).

I love the art style too...I wish more game would try something different than ultra-realistic graphics all the time.

That game is the only time that a game adaptation is infititely better than both the show and the comic that it's based off. THAT IS STATISTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE, BUT IT DID IT.

TWD and Glee are two examples of shows that had excellent pilots and everything that came afterwards kind of pales in comparison. For me, at least. Ditched both shows in their second seasons.

The show barely got up in the first place. I think it needs a life alert.

I'll give you Season 2. The Eternal Farmhouse was no one's friend, least of all Dale's, but they're bringing back the gory survival realness this season.

Also Rick's batshit now, so that's fun.

IA. I still watch the show, but it's really more out of habit than because I give a fuck about anyone or anything in the show.

Watching the pilot again made me wonder where all the subtlety went. Season 3 is okay but everything feels so...overblown. Even the character moments feel super dramatic and over the top.
mfirefly10: (TWD - I miss Lori)

[personal profile] mfirefly10 2013-02-21 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
ITA, though I still enjoy the show. I think there's only been a few episodes that had the right balance between zombie-killing action, suspense and character development and the pilot was one of them. Then again, I actually liked season 2 so...

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I feel like the show's only been getting better and better as it goes on. The first season was good, and then the second season kind of dragged for the most part, (but then picked up at the end) but season three has been excellent and I've looked forward to every episode.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
to be fair, it's much easier to do all the fun, subtle world-building bits in the beginning of every series. your characters and world are unknown to the audience, and you can take whatever direction you want in expanding it, timing introductions, building tension, forming a cast, etc. but once you've got an established cast and plotline going you're tethered to it, and it's a limitation you didn't have before.
