not the op, but i've actually seen male/'male' fans in several fandoms where there's a popular slash otp who really do get worshipped because, i guess, the idea that they may have had sex with another dude makes their 'fic better? (often times, their stuff was mediocre, at best.) idk, i actually think there's something to this, re: transformative fandom being mostly bio women/trans men vs., say, a fandom made up of mostly straight dudes. there's a different feel to them.
