Oooookay. Possibly it's because I haven't been paying attention, but I have never seen female fans enthusing over the genitalia of male fans. Enthuse over the genitalia of fictional characters, actors, performers, celebrities, and even miscellaneous public figures, yes. Other fans? I've never seen anything more detailed than "X is hot".

I have to agree with you, OP. My experiences have been similar.

Obviously, there are actual biologically male fans of things, but in the parts of fandom that *I* hang out in? Nothing but women and people who were born as women.

One of the craziest experiences of my life was being at a slash con and having a discussion about the femaleness of the space when the ONE (FtM) man there objected to that point. It really skeeved me out because here was this great female-centric subworld that was fashioned by women, for women, out of a 35+ year history of female creativity and labor.... when this person was all "LOL NOPE". Obviously, slash and fandom as a whole are not limited to women, but to act like they are somehow not one of the few spaces where women are the central actors really disturbs me.

What stands out to me about this secret is that while you say you don't care, it seems like you do--or at least, you seem to assume other people would care.

But who cares? Yes, there are trans people who prefer to be stealth, and that should be respected. But the main problem with wondering if someone is trans is that so often, people act like trans people are presenting themselves as something that they're not, and that if you figure out that they're trans, then you've "discovered" something.

It really shouldn't be that big of a deal. Okay, so some guys in fandom are trans. I do think in some female-dominated fannish spaces, there can be a higher number of trans men than cis men. But assuming guys in female-dominated fandoms are trans is kind of like assuming that someone who uses a lot of British spelling may have grown up in a country that uses British spelling. So what?

Just came here to say that I do know a couple of very women-dominated fandoms where the very few male fans don't get so much worshipped than getting a free pass for being obnoxious assholes. As in, they bring nothing to the fandom (fics, news, art, interesting posts), but on the other hand they expect a special treatment on the basis of their balls. And from some women, they get it.

I even had one PM-ing me on the board I was an admin of to ask me to make him a moderator, "since he's the only guy". He wasn't even a very active member and admitted he was not on the board very often, so how could he have done a proper moderating job? But nooo, apparently the fact that he had a cock was enough of a reason to make him one.

The sad thing is, when I said "lol NO" and gave my reasons (he had none of the qualities required to be a mod), and laughed about his expectations, a lot of them thought I was a man-hating bitch. The did give him a lot more attention than to female members who were equally absent from the board.
