(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 12:17 am (UTC)(link)Obviously, there are actual biologically male fans of things, but in the parts of fandom that *I* hang out in? Nothing but women and people who were born as women.
One of the craziest experiences of my life was being at a slash con and having a discussion about the femaleness of the space when the ONE (FtM) man there objected to that point. It really skeeved me out because here was this great female-centric subworld that was fashioned by women, for women, out of a 35+ year history of female creativity and labor.... when this person was all "LOL NOPE". Obviously, slash and fandom as a whole are not limited to women, but to act like they are somehow not one of the few spaces where women are the central actors really disturbs me.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 12:21 am (UTC)(link)*Parts of fandom I hang out in having only women and other female-born people
The one exception is F!S and I have actually had pretty good experiences here with male fans. (Here's to you, insanenoodlyguy~)
