I would understand being pissed of at people that exclusively ship the heterosexual version of a couple (but even though I keep hearing that, I've never actually seen anyone do that). But generally judging everyone who likes genderswap!het, is a little bit unreasonable.

I, for example, love genderswap. But if there is a character, I want to see genderswapped, then for me it's about the character and the way the genderswap would influence them. Would their behaviour change? How would other characters treat them? etc. And then I mostly don't care, if the character I ship them with is genderswapped too. On the contrary, I think it can be very intresting to see how the relationship would change if they don't have the same gender anymore.

So I guess what I am trying to say is, there are a lot of reasons to like genderswap and they don't necessarily have to do with shipping. And even if it is about the ship, it doesn't mean the author doesn't like (fem)slash. I could just mean they wanted to explore another scenario.

This this all of this. I think that after a good deal of exposure to one person's fanworks, you can generally get a decent idea of how/why they ship something, but just looking at one work or generalizing altogether... yeah. It sounds unreasonable.

Re: your first paragraph, I've sort of seen it happen in RP, actually, but it was between two terribly developed OCs so I wouldn't say if it only dawned on their players to ship them het or what. But it was a trainwreck all around.

And I've been asked that question, come to think of it. "Do you really ship A/B even outside of this fem!A context of yours?" And it weirded me out like whoa. I could only read that question with one implication, aka that I play a sexswapped A for the main reason of self-inserting myself into B's fictional pants, and uhm. No. I love my fem!A for all the reasons you've listed in your post and then some.

Well, I only ship Destiel if Cas is female because Dean always seemed totes straight to me. I mean, I've read arguments that he's bi or in denial and see n where they're coming from, but I just can't buy him liking the D. Cas and Dean's dynamic is fascinating to me, and if Cas had a female host I could see them getting together. :D (is host not the word? That's the Stargate word, Ithink SPN has something different....)

This. I like genderswap because of how it affects characters and their relationships with others.

One of the most fascinating fic writing experiences I had was when genderswapping a relationship that canonically had an 18 year old woman going after a 30-something man. I started noticing a lot I hadn't thought about social attitudes before, it was all pretty darn interesting.

Besides, I think genderswapping a popular femslash/slash pairing to m/f is okay so long as the one who does it isn't just doing it because they have a problem with m/m or f/f.
