It used to rub me the wrong way, but eh, it can be cute. I wouldn't call it ~HETERONORMATIVE~ unless they exclusively ship the version where they're a boy and a girl.

I do prefer everyone being genderswapped though. (And those are some really cute fanarts)

... I'm a hardcore Slasher and I still enjoy Genderbender fich which only one character with a different gender because it gives a different vibe to the pairing.

What I hate is when they give their genderswapped fem character all the traits that are normally attributed to a female character in canon and then sideline said female character. It comes across as really nasty.

but...i'm heterosexual and f/f is not my thing. i read primarily slash, and i occasionally read het, but why would i read f/f? it does nothing for me, sorry. so if i do read genderswapped fic (which doesn't really do much for me unless it's really well written, anyway), i definitely wouldn't want the characters *both* genderswapped.

I would understand being pissed of at people that exclusively ship the heterosexual version of a couple (but even though I keep hearing that, I've never actually seen anyone do that). But generally judging everyone who likes genderswap!het, is a little bit unreasonable.

I, for example, love genderswap. But if there is a character, I want to see genderswapped, then for me it's about the character and the way the genderswap would influence them. Would their behaviour change? How would other characters treat them? etc. And then I mostly don't care, if the character I ship them with is genderswapped too. On the contrary, I think it can be very intresting to see how the relationship would change if they don't have the same gender anymore.

So I guess what I am trying to say is, there are a lot of reasons to like genderswap and they don't necessarily have to do with shipping. And even if it is about the ship, it doesn't mean the author doesn't like (fem)slash. I could just mean they wanted to explore another scenario.

I like pretty much all genderswap, unless it's blatantly obvious the author is doing it due to underlying nastiness (I think I've seen one fic that I got that vibe from). So, mostly I'm just commenting to say that that Bilbo/Thorin pic is the cutest thing ever.

You're getting some disbelief because not everyone's seen fans that don't stop at shipping their preference, but have to add that they think making the pairing ungay makes it ungross.

On the one hand, I have no interest in gender-swapping for shipping/porn purposes (I have plenty of ships that are canonically opposite-gender if heterosexual shipping is what I'm in the mood for).

On the other hand... why do you care? How can you assume fic that switches only one character's gender is all about shipping and sex? And how do you know if someone prefers gender-swapped hetero-pairings, unless they actually say so? Even if you are keeping tabs on a fic author's entire output and are able to see patterns in it, that's just what that person writes - you don't know what all they're reading or what other things people who read those fics are reading. Finally, is swapping gender to make a couple straight any different than swapping sexual orientation to make them gay?
