The more I hear about this character and her rabid stans the more I want to watch this show, if only for the novelty of being in a fandom where a female villain gets the Draco-in-Leather-Pants treatment.

Are the Rum ones this bad? I lurk on some fairly hardcore Rumbelle tumblrs, and the consensus seems to be that he - while hot and interesting - is very morally dark grey at minimum and also a complete fucking idiot on occasion.

Now, Hook's corner of the fandom I haven't been in; not sure what's going on there.

Maybe they've calmed down a bit since I last looked? But much of the Rumpel fandom was... yeah as bad as the evil Regals.

Wow. Yuck. I may find his character more interesting than hers, and his reasons at least make sense to me, but reasons /= justifications.

Hook's corner is scary and full of people who think Hook is an absolute romantic angel despite stealing Aurora's heart, almost killing Belle, shooting Belle to make her fall over the town line, calling Emma worthless, and constantly coming onto her and other women with super-duper creepy sexist lines.

Don't go in there.

No, at least three of the villains and some of the heros get the Draco-in-Leather-Pants treatment, because the costume designer must love leather, and fandom loves to woobify villains. --goes back to oogling backsides.

It is interesting that way- the whole show is dominated by female characters, which has flipped some of the usual fandom tendencies. However, the issue the OP is talking about...is very, very muddled. The show keeps shoving the adopted kid onto the biological mother who willingly gave him up and didn't come back into his life until he forced her to. So if you have any strong feelings on adopted families, it might be best to stay away.
