there are fanartists who don't want people to write fic based on their work?

I can see this happening...

Not the OP, but I can understand why some artists might object, especially if the writer makes a big fuss telling everyone that it's fanfic for a well known piece of fanart. I knew an artist who really didn't like the fact that a writer insisted on writing corny underage dub-con fics with terrible plots. The artist couldn't stop the writer, of course, but she didn't appreciate being associated with that type of fanfiction.

This. I've never seen any fanartist explicitly say that they don't want fic inspired by their fanart, neither before nor after somebody wrote fic. I've only ever seen artists be happy about fanfic, or in the worst cases they ignored it, but didn't complain about it.
