I don't recall the OP saying they're better people because they want to be friends with celebrities and not date them for the money and the fame, like their friends do.

That said, wanting any kind of relationship with another person for the person themselves rather than of for fame and money is kind of better in my book. Definitely not weird.

Yep, this exactly. I'd want to be friends WITH them, not lovers. And fame is nutty and I'd like to be their calm in the center of the storm.

Yeah, this.
I know a few who obsess over a celebrity but seem to hate everything that makes said celebrity human. It's very odd. One even said she'd rather know the singer depressed as hell in his hometown than living la vida loca in L.A. where he'd probably meet bombshells and have sex with them (she doesn't mind the promiscuity, she minds that he'd sleep with people wh oare not her).

Basically because she can't stand that he could be happy without her.
Or be happy while her life is crap.
