You say this as if it makes you better than your friends.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha yeah.

OP's celebrity obsession is just much more authentic, you know? OP is still all about the true spirit of celebrity-friendship-fantasizing... Basically OP is a celebrity friendship backpacker.

+10000 :D "Oh no, it's not that I don't want the side benefits of your fame and money that comes from being your friend, I just don't want to sleep with you to get it!"

And if you truly don't want that, you really just want to be friends because you think the celebrity is nice, then what's to say your friends don't want to just sleep with them because they think the celebrity is hot?

That's not at all what I got from this post. I think this post was just saying they have an unpopular opinion that makes them feel weird, even though they feel they're justified.

And I happen to really like the OP's logic.

It sounds like wishful thinking to me.

Unless your friends are all actual groupies, I doubt their one ambition in life is to outright fuck their fave celeb.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh... congratulations on being different? But it's really no less strange to fantasize about being BFFs with people you've never met than having sex with people you've never met. Possibly more strange, given how much sexual attraction seems to be based on immediate first impressions.

I don't think it's weird to want to be friends. I'm just surprised at the reasons your friends want to date celebs. Most people I know want to because of attraction and many dream of being with the celebrity for a long time.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Your friends sound like shitheads, TBH.

Or maybe they want to date them because they think the celebrity is hot or seems like a nice or interesting person? Fame and money isn't the only reason someone would have to date a celebrity.

And wanting to be friends with a celebrity is not all that unusual a want, imo. (Though it is dumb of your friends to say you're weird.)

I'm sorry your friends think friendship is a less serious relationship than a romance, but the fact that you don't doesn't make you a better person.

/saying this as a person who is friends with a fairly well-known singer and has no intentions of having sex with him.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I don't fancy celebs or want to be their bffs. I want to absorb them, to take them inside of me, to become them.

Each to our own I guess...

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Also? Being friends with a celebrity is (probably) just like being friends with a normal person? I mean, many celebs are normal people under all the fame. Or else they're really fucked up due to said fame.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I've been BFFs with a celebrity. It's a very peculiar thing.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Come on, you have to spill some details now...

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I know where you're coming from, here. My embarrassing celebrity bro-mance is Pete Wentz. Like, I want to spend a day with him at the arcade or something, because he seems so fucking bonkers that it can't be boring.

I don't recall the OP saying they're better people because they want to be friends with celebrities and not date them for the money and the fame, like their friends do.

That said, wanting any kind of relationship with another person for the person themselves rather than of for fame and money is kind of better in my book. Definitely not weird.

First you say your friends want to date them for fame and money and then you say your friends want to sleep with them only once... but sleeping with them only once probably wouldn't get them fame and it wouldn't get them money unless they were prostitutes... I don't get it.

...That was kind of a tangent, but anyway, I don't think it's weird to want to be friends with celebrities. I think a lot of people have heard things about people and thought "That person seems cool, I want to be their friend" even if you've never spoken to them. Having a "platonic crush" on a celebrity is kind of the same thing, I think.

And I just want my favorite celebrities to work hard and get lots and lots of parts. That way I get what I really want from them without having to compete for their attention. Besides, hanging with celebrities just seems like an awesome way to get a bunch of highly judgmental strangers all up into my business.

[personal profile] bored_bitch 2013-02-22 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Eh. I would just want the money, but I wouldn't manipulate them or have sex for it.

/doesn't get celebrity worship at all

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
When I'm bored and head-ficcing self-inserts, 'I' always get together with my favorite male character. But if I let the scenario go on long enough, we end up drifting apart, he gets together with the female I ship him with in canon, and then she and 'I' become best friends.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
your current friends are just like celebrities minus the fame and money, you know. that is, they're people who do things. seriously, i don't even understand what you're trying to say except 'i'm morally superior to my friends because fame and money makes me want to be friends with someone rather than want to sleep with them.'

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
I don't want fame or money but being friends-with-benefits with a harem of hot celebs would be ace

I know exactly what you mean, anon. I almost never feel attracted in that way to celebrities, but I so often want to just be their friend. Get to know them very well, but no interest in sex or romance. They're just a fascinating person who makes me laugh. I just want to hang out with them, play video games or read books or w/e. Maybe it's what aces call a "squish"?

But then when you say anything about it, you get people like upthread who get defensive and think that you think you're better than them, because you don't want to fuck the celebrities you like... =_=

(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
OP believe me, most celebrities are very ordinary, and sometimes even dull and self obsessed. They aren't any more interesting to hang about with than anyone else, but may be more narcissistic.

Also, here's the thing, they care about paying their mortgage, and their kids school fees, and their family, and friends, usually from before fame. Just like everyone else.

And yes, I do know this, I'm not a celebrity, but am in the film and television making world..
