(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 05:42 am (UTC)(link)It's a slightly different situation in fandom because there's a general culture of being able to approach people directly about things like this and ask - and being denied the opportunity to write fic based on one piece of fanart is less bothersome than being told an entire universe of canon is off-limits - but on the other hand, the theory that 'If you put it out there, you can't control how people might interpret it' still applies.
(Re: the additional information OP provided...but yeah, if you *do* take the step of contacting the artist and asking, and they say 'no, or at least don't link back to me', that's reasonable.
