Re: Weird hair care question (maybe gross? dunno)
(Anonymous) 2013-02-22 08:36 am (UTC)(link)I only shampoo my hair once fortnightly, but I use conditioner to wash it everyday (I basically use it in place of shampoo - scrub and wash out immediately). The friction gets rid of any dirt buildup over the day and the conditioner leaves a nice scent without drying out my hair/scalp like using shampoo regularly does.
Occasionally, I'll do a rinse or scrub with natural products to keep dandruff at bay. Three of my favourites:
1) Mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar into a cup of warm water; pour over your head and rub well into the scalp. This stops dandruff cold - it's been better for me than any anti-dandruff shampoo I've ever tried. If you have a problem with dandruff, it might take a few rinses, but you'll see the difference soon enough. Caveat: I don't like the smell, so I always do it on a day when I'm not going out!
2) Mix the juice of one lemon with conditioner; rub it into your scalp thoroughly and rinse it out. This removes buildup but is still gentle on the hair and scalp. Sometimes I use this in place of my fortnightly shampoo - it's very cleansing and my scalp always feels great afterwards. And my hair's so soft I keep petting it! =P
3) Mix a couple of spoons of brown sugar with conditioner; use it as a scrub on your scalp. This is self-explanatory, and if I ever feel like I'm getting an itch somewhere on my scalp, this is my go-to fix-it. It's also useful for when there are little spots of itchiness but you don't feel like treating your entire scalp. Just adjust the amounts of sugar and conditioner as required.
One other treatment I haven't tried myself but have heard good things about: getting a cup of whipped cream, beaten nice and fluffy, and massaging it into your scalp. Leave it for 5-10 minutes and then rinse it out well. Apparently this works wonders on dry/flaking scalps.
Hopefully one of these helps you, OP! Just to reiterate though, I think you should still see a dermatologist first, because the sores you're describing sound terrible; you might need medical intervention to help those heal before you try anything else.
