I can't get behind the excuses for her horrendous actions, but somehow I do appreciate that her apologists exist. As some posters said above, I'm just so used to seeing mass-murdering, puppy-eating, genocidal, rapist, torturer MALE villains get described as poor widdle woobies while female characters as utterly demonized for so much as stealing a candy bar.

Heck, the only other female villain I can think of who gets the Draco in Leather Pants treatment is, maybe, Azula from A:tLA...and she's a troubled 15 year old girl under the thumb of a scary abusive father, without the positive counter influences her brother has, and ultimately shown to be sad and broken. And she's still called pure undiluted evil fairly often.

Maybe Harley Quinn, too, but most of her stories go way out of their way to show how manipulated, abused, and used she is by the Joker, even when she tries to crawl away from him, and even with her I hear how she's "exactly as bad as the Joker, if not worse" a lot. I mean, I agree she's messed up, but on her own I can't see her stopping to QUITE his depths.

Maybe the Regina apologists and the Film!Loki apologists should have an excuse-off.
