They were pretty popular back in the day, especially when Rosa was busy defining Duckberg and everything else. We did study him a bit in our history of comics class, and our professor told us how Disney comics didn't have artists names on them, but everyone knew when a comic was drawn by "the good one" and they'd get all excited because they knew it was going to be a fantastic adventure.

It's not so much Disney comics that don't do so well here, it's children's comics in general. And for that, you can thank "Seduction of the Innocent" and the creation of comic shops/phasing out of the grocery store spinner racks. Thirty/forty-odd years ago, a kid could pick up a comic at the while mom shopped. But now, pretty much the only way to get anything but Archie is to go into a comic shop, and America still has this holdover concept that comic shops are no place for kids (while at the same time, figuring that comics are for kids. Go figure).

Price doesn't help either. Heck, I'm not even thirty yet, but when I started reading comics, they were a buck fifty or so--didn't hurt nearly as much to shell out six bucks for four comics as it does to shell out six for two.
