I love it so hard. (maybe not in The Professional...) But in The Immortals series, with Daine and Numair being like, 13 years apart? Love it. (it surprised me when there was so much backlash for the pairing...)

I don't like the opposite though, mostly because I've always found men younger than me to be too immature. (girls too, but I have a younger brother and all of his friends just seem so... tiresome)

I'm pretty sure Daine was thirteen when her books started. And Numair started having romantic inclinations towards her that early.

It didn't bother me as a kid, but looking back, I find it really creepy that an author decided to have a young adult series with that shipped a 13-year-old with someone in their mid-twenties.

I think Natalie Portman's character is twelve there. So when you're talking Daine, you're talking a girl only one year older than that. It's hard to sort of visualize that when it's a book, but yeah. Thirteen.

Also, I'm pretty sure Alanna ends with with George who was, by different accounts, either twenty years older than her, or seven.

Tamora Pierce seems to have a lot of older man/younger woman endgame couples.

Just reread Wild Magic recently, and I don't see any romance on Numair's side of it. In the later books, yeah, but not when Daine is 13. It really shows up when it begins to be clear that she's as rare and as powerful a magic user as he is. In power, at least, they're peers.

Agreed. As I posted elsewhere, it's pretty much explicitly stated in RotG: "He could feel her blink, as if those long dark lashes of hers touched his cheek. Suddenly he learned something that he'd never considered before. For a brief moment, that fresh knowledge erased even his sense of magical cataclysm."

Nope.

Opening scene of RotG: "He could feel her blink, as if those long dark lashes of hers touched his cheek. Suddenly he learned something that he'd never considered before. For a brief moment, that fresh knowledge erased even his sense of magical cataclysm."

'never considered before'. At least to me, that's pretty conclusive that he had *no* romantic inclinations towards her in the first three books. Now, she's still fifteen in the above passage, which you can make of what you will.
