And there's that whole feeling of accomplishment when I defeat hard bosses or clear a higher difficulty *eyes Metal Gear anything* and I refuse to watch LPs.

Yessssss, that's a big part of what I enjoy about video games.

Watching an LP doesn't mean you can't still grasp the story and the characters personalities, but playing a game gives you a certain sense of accomplishment when you beat it. Some people don't care about that part; they just want the story. (Or can't afford the system and games, etc.) It's perfectly acceptable.
