The general sentiment I see is that "putting your comment in the post is like saying something out loud in class, but putting it in the tags is like whispering it to your friends and giggling with them."
The more practical reason is so posts don't get passed around with a gigantic string of comments going "THIS!" and "T for true" and "MY FEELS" and "perfect babies" and "WHY WOULD YOU POST THAT," and to keep the original post from getting too squished to read.

I'm okay with people putting the inane stuff in tags ("this" "my feels" etc), putting giant essay comments in tags is what bugs me. If you have something to say, just say it...

It's one thing to put Tumblr inanities into the tags, but actual comments with something to say? WHY put it in the tags where it's hard to find?! D:
