You know, picking a side doesn't magically make you black and white. Those on your side aren't inherently worthy of your support. "But they (X affiliation)" is a rather poor argument.

You could say you still believe in the core value they are trying for but, "this is their side." just sounds like you have no actual defense for them and are scrambling.

Just being "feminist" doesn't make you right about all things. I mean, look at the radfems and trans-misogyny, and how college educated white feminists were so caught up in middle class concerns that a whole black feminist/womanist movement started up.

But I mean don't listen to me I'm just a feminist in academia who's actually read about this stuff

(I've genuinely battled with self-esteem problems because I couldn't tell where to draw the line between disagreeing with an individual feminist and disagreeing with feminism. I know it sounds stupid, but I spent too much time with the wrong feminists.)

There are self-declared feminists who are wrong about shit, and it is not wrong to disagree with and/or critique self-declared feminists.

if the self declared feminist is listing off the 'ways' a person can be a proper woman, they're not a feminist.

although i would argue most feminists are self declared since you don't really get people going around pointing at others and going "bam! you're now a feminist!"
