Yep.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE BBC Sherlock but there are quite a few things that I try to skip over because of the cringe worthiness.

This episode has the most of those moments, including Martin Freeman's hammy "IT'S NOT OKAY!!!" 'outburst', Sherlock's multi-chinned breakdown by the fireplace and the whole detoxing scene at the begging. And let's not forget the CG dog.

Yeah, HOTB is probably my least favorite ep but there are moments in the other episodes too.

I HATE THE CG DOG SO MUCH.

ROFL the CG dog is the *least* of my problems with this adaptation. It is a longstanding Sherlockian tradition that, no matter what kind of money/SFX/etc you pour your heart and soul into it, nothing, I mean *nothing* can even remotely come close to approximating ACD's original description of the Hound.

"I sprang to my feet, my inert hand grasping my pistol, my mind paralyzed by the dreadful shape which had sprung out upon us from the shadows of the fog. A hound it was, an enormous coal-black hound, but not such a hound as mortal eyes have ever seen. Fire burst from its open mouth, its eyes glowed with a smouldering glare, its muzzle and hackles and dewlap were outlined in flickering flame. Never in the delirious dream of a disordered brain could anything more savage, more appalling, more hellish be conceived than that dark form and savage face which broke upon us out of the wall of fog."

The part of this episode that really makes me grind my teeth was how they flipped the exchange between Holmes and Watson in DEVI totally 180 degrees, and instead of Holmes A) Telling Watson the experiment would be unpleasant before it started, and B) apologizing afterwards for just how unpleasant it was, as happened in Canon, instead we got Mad Psychopath Who Uses His Friends For Fun and Profit, and Watches it Unfold on CCTV.

Which is so OOC for ACD's Sherlock Holmes, that ACD's grave is probably generating enough centrifugal force right now to become another Lagrange point....

At least the bit in my secret had no relation to Canon, and was so badly-executed it reached MST3K levels of funny. But how they handled the DEVI poisoning was just wrong on so many levels, and thoroughly disgraceful to the original work (ACD takes great pains to make sure that, though Holmes may seem cold, he is a man of honour), and that was when the show started losing its lustre for me.

(Don't get me started on SCAN that was when I gave up entirely trolololol. :-P)

Ugh, the whole Sherlock drugging John incident. Seriously, that was the most stupid thing that Mark Gatiss has ever wrote. -_- And that includes Victory of the Daleks.

If you need more evidence for how little of a shit they really gave about that episode, notice the bit where Sherlock is walking to the inn and he flips his coat collar up then says to John 'It's cold'. That scene makes no sense. Why is there? Because it was supposed to go AFTER they'd been to Baskerville and John had taken the piss out of Sherlock for flipping his collar up to 'look cool'. They acknowledged this and no one bothered to edit the scenes so they just left it as it is and it's really jarring.

Then again, the Blind Banker was the weakest ep of S1 so maybe they just care more about the start and the finale. In which case, they should just have two episodes a series. :P

i just had to say that there is something about the line "Sherlock's multi-chinned breakdown by the fireplace" that is making me completely lose my shit
