i like a lot of her videos, but this one really rubbed me the wrong way, too.

i haven't seen true grit, but speaking generally: i understand where she's coming from a bit (shoving traditionally masculine traits onto women shouldn't be viewed as the magic key to making "strong female characters," and femininity isn't weak), but it felt like she was saying female characters "should" act in a kind of specific way in order to be feminist, and if they have x y and z traits then they're "essentially men" or something. nevermind the fact that there's plenty of women in real life who exhibit those traits? are they lesser women, now?

(also, am i the only one who feels a little weird asking if a character is "feminist or not," because i can't quite place a finger on why)

This. And your last comment too; I think it bugs me because it feels like projecting values on something to justify why you enjoy them, and acting as if these ideas were intended to be there?
