Personally I can't stand Eridan. (I'm pretty neutral on his looks. Karkat, Dave, Dirk, John, and Tavros are all much prettier.)

Wow, really? I mean, I assume you like Vriska (based on your icon)... I kinda think that liking Vriska and liking Eridan kind of go hand in hand but I guess not...

(Vriska is my fav after Karkat, but Eridan hardly less so! Also Eridan is ttly pretty he's a total babe <3 <3 <3)

Vriska is my faaaaaaaavorite! And Eridan is literally my least favorite (except perhaps Cronus, but I think you're supposed to hate him).

Also I've met lots of people who love Vriska and hate Eridan or vice-versa (as well as people who love or hate both of them). The one pattern I've noticed with those two is very few people are neutral about them - you either love them or hate them.

Is it just because you've met lots of people with similar opinions about them, or do you think they're similar characters? Because I really do not see that tbh

I guess it's more that I usually don't see people who like one or dislike the other. I am not really hooked into the fandom though... a lot of the Homestuck people I follow on Tumblr tend to be like me and probably literally love everyone, so I think my sample set is a bit skewed. I guess I was more surprised because I have not seen it before firsthand where someone likes one and dislikes the other!

But I'm not so sure I agree that they're all that different. They have different personalities and temperaments, sure. But when it comes down to the core of who they are... the things they are insecure about, the things they want out of life, their beliefs and goals: well, those match up pretty nicely! I've always thought that the main reason Vriska ended her blackrom with him and came to the place where she couldn't stand to be around him anymore is because he DID remind her a lot of herself... the things she dislikes about herself. I do believe there is a reason she tends to be drawn towards the goofball straightforward innocent sorts like Tavros and John, and a part of that has got to be that they are more like what she kind of WANTS to be.

I'm not gonna ask why you dislike him... there are definitely lots of reasons to dislike him, it's not a mystery to me why anyone would. But I do wanna ask if maybe you h8 him in the Vriska sense? Cuz when it comes to spades he was basically MADE to be romantically loathed, lol. And he was definitely right about one thing... he and Vriska were gr8 together, back in the day!!!!!!!! Not that she'd probably agree. :)

I think they were more similar as children than they are now. Eridan demonstrated aptly that he's willing to sacrifice anyone and anything without remorse to reach his goals. Vriska thought she was like that...but turns out she felt guilt and empathy even if she didn't want to admit it.

I can't get into it anymore right now, sadly, since I'm in class and my attention is divided. >_>

I'm not sure if your last paragraph is serious. When I say I don't find Eridan attractive, I mean I don't find Eridan attractive. Just because so many people think he's super bish doesn't mean everyone has to agree, yeesh. I really do not like him and I definitely don't have a "spades crush" on him (I'm not a troll how would that even be possible)
