In tv shows or in movies - when someone has an IV in and they just reach down and rip it right out in like - two seconds.

No, no, no, *NO*. I've had IVs. SEVERAL. They put a fuck-ton of tape and whatnot all over the place so that a) it *can't* be easily pulled out and b) the cannula doesn't get wrenched around by the IV line when you move.

In fic - when someone is in a hospital bed and their visitor 'helps them sit up' and 'props them with pillows'. This is a *hospital bed* (we're talking modern day fandoms). They are *adjustable*. In fact, the way the top half can slowly bend up so you're sitting upright? Is amazingly helpful if you have a huge incision trying to heal on your midsection and actually using those muscles hurts like a bitch.
