Have this example of something I thought two days ago (very little exaggeration here): Oh, so you're having a shower before I could come back and rinse off the cleaning spray? You infuriating WANKER! I hate everyone in this house! And wash your goddamn dishes!

Re: Pet peeves!
Basically, it's using the word "frech" to describe an adult. "Frech" in German means something like "naughty", "insolent", "sassy" or "cheeky", like it can mean all these things depending on the context. But it's still mainly used to describe kids, so it's INCREDIBLY condescending in my book. And it's usually only ever used to describe women too when used for adults, like you wouldn't hear about a man being called that. Even if it's meant in a positive way, like idk sassy is positive, right? It's still like... ugh, how could you think that's a compliment.

'The Immaculate Conception' being used to mean pregnancy without sex. Sure, it would be more useful to have a term for that, but that's not what immaculate conception means.
^Those are two that I know I should let go but they rankle every time. My other big pet peeve is people chewing with their mouths open/talking with their mouths full. But I'm right that that ought to be a set-on-fireable offense!
Re: Pet peeves!
(Anonymous) 2013-02-25 01:28 am (UTC)(link)Apostrophes used for pluralization, quotation marks used for emphasis, and spelling and grammar errors in general.
Also, my parents' weird/incorrect pronunciation of things. They both do it, but in kind of opposite ways--my mom's accent is really southern and she pronounces most things phonetically even when they shouldn't be, and my dad pronounces things in the most pretentious/"exotic" way possible.
Re: Pet peeves!
(Anonymous) 2013-02-25 01:34 am (UTC)(link)Most authors either totally forget the comma or use it just after their name in the middle of the dialogue, "You Clint, need to go home." No, it's "You, Clint, need to go home." Is Clint's first name you? No, it's not. Clint is Clint's first name.
At the beginning of a sentence: "Clint I want you to go home". No, just no. It's, "Clint, I want you to go home."
At the middle of a sentence, there are 2, count 'em, people, 2 commas: "Hey, Phil wants you, Clint, to go home." See that? When you're addressing someone you're supposed to place a comma before the name and after name in dialogue.
At the end of a sentence: "I want you to go home, Clint." See that? The comma goes before the name.
Also, the same applies if you're calling them an nickname such as dear, honey, sweetheart, etc. "(Dear,) I want you, dear, to go home (,dear).
Also if you're calling them names: "(Asshole), I want you, asshole, to go home (,asshole)."
Basically, it goes around the term you're using to address someone with. In an earlier sentence in the comment, I used people as the term to I put a comma before people and after people.
If you're just talking about someone, then you don't set their name off in commas. "Tasha, please tell Clint to go home." No commas around Clint since he's being spoken about, but there is after Tasha since she's being talked to.
I'm so freaking tired of trying to figure out who the author is talking about or talking to. I'm tired of "gems" like this, "Clint Coulson is in the briefing room."
Do you mean: A) Clint married Coulson and took his name and you're now telling someone where Clint Coulson's location is?
B)Did you forget your comma? Who are you addressing? Did you mean: "Clint, Coulson is in the briefing room?", which means you're telling Clint that Coulson is in the b.r. B/c the comma is after Clint and there is no comma after Coulson, I know you're talking to Clint.
Or C)"Clint, Coulson, is in the b.r.", which means you're telling Coulson that Clint is in the b.r. B/c the comma is before and after Coulson, I know you're telling Clint that Coulson is in the b.r.
Most authors either totally forget the comma or use it just after their name in the middle of the dialogue, "You Clint, need to go home." No, it's "You, Clint, need to go home."
THANK YOU.

No, no, no, *NO*. I've had IVs. SEVERAL. They put a fuck-ton of tape and whatnot all over the place so that a) it *can't* be easily pulled out and b) the cannula doesn't get wrenched around by the IV line when you move.
In fic - when someone is in a hospital bed and their visitor 'helps them sit up' and 'props them with pillows'. This is a *hospital bed* (we're talking modern day fandoms). They are *adjustable*. In fact, the way the top half can slowly bend up so you're sitting upright? Is amazingly helpful if you have a huge incision trying to heal on your midsection and actually using those muscles hurts like a bitch.

Also, the saying is, "If that's what you think, you have another thinK coming." It's not, "If that's what you think, you have another thinG coming." No, just no. It's think, not thing. Okay?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-25 02:18 am (UTC)(link)You moved here, moron, in this area, which means you are the one w/the accent and it's not "cute". It's grating (it's usually northerners who say this)so move back to what hole you crawled out of, 'k? Also, correcting me about my pronunciation of the city names around me? Are you fuckin' serious? I KNOW HOW TO SAY THEM. I'VE LIVED HERE MY ENTIRE LIFE. YOU'RE SAYING THEM WRONG, MORON.
Although I wouldn't mind moving out of Texas, I'll stick to the southern states. I'm not sure there's enough money to make me move north and deal w/the culture clash and people who think I'm stupid b/c, "You talk cute/weird/etc." in the northern states.
