I think the "lesbians" in fandom are either:
A) Actually 15-year old girls who say they are lesbians because boys don't like them enough / still have cooties.
B) Are in fandom because they are lesbians and fandom is generally more open with that.
or
C) Are "bi" because they are more open-minded because of fandom.

Also, yes, most of the ones I know tend to be "asexual" or girls who think they are really boys... e_e

Since we're playing Sexuality Police over here, I can say I think a large portion (though certainly not the majority!) of 'heterosexuals' are only completely heterosexual because of a heterocentrist norms in society, and how homosexuality and positive homosexual characters that are not either comic relief, villains, or 'victims' are pretty much nonexistent and invisible in the media, and we're told all of our life that only the opposite gender can truly take care of us and fulfill the family status quo!

But then again that would be being judgmental and pretty retarded to assume such a thing about a large majority of people.

I am not attacking you or anything, but honestly I just cringe whenever anyone says anything about people's sexualities that they don't know in general.

Sorry if I seemed a bit defensive. You seem actually really sweet and humble when I look at your userinfo :D; ahahuur but my opinion still stands.

Sure this is not the absolute truth for every case, but I think you're generally right.

...or ya know.

D) Happen to be lesbians and happen to be in fandom at the same time. It isn't relative. STFU

OMG, this is totally off topic, but is your icon gankable. If not that is ok, and I just want to say it made me little snort out loud because I rewatching GW right now, and that so totally is his happy face.

Oh I have every respect for transvestites/transgenders/etc but I think a lot of teenage girls go through some sort of identity crisis, at least all the girls I have known in real life that are in fandom.

[identity profile] iamadoughnut.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, in my (limited) experience, it's teenage girls in general. An overwhelming number of girls I've talked to have confided in me that this one time, in high school, omg they thought they might be bi.

It's cute how they think it's shocking or something, I don't know.

... you're cruising on the failboat there. If they're "asexual" then they're not lesbians. If they "think they are really boys", they're straight boys, not lesbians.

Add 1 x option Z) Girls who don't give a shit about their sexuality in general. :] 19 and never had a date, and not particularly in a hurry to. I'm afraid I am a freak who just doesn't give a flying fuck. ♥

[identity profile] chronophobe.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Psh you aren't a freak, if anything. Dating is rather stupid.

(Though note that I specified "lesbians" and not "girls" so you were excluded in the first place, unless of course you go under the guise of being a lesbian to escape... something...?)
