You are really not the only one. Harry Potter fandom at least has entire communities dedicated to retrieving fic of authors who deleted, so they'd have that for if anything went down, too.

HP Story Finders over on LJ has members who save and e-mail out stories; I remember picking up excentrykemuse's when she deleted.
