I've got 10+ years of fanfic reading saved in txt format, sorted by fandoms and pairings. The 'fic folder has followed me through some four or five different computers and two external hard drives. I seriously do not want to look up the total number of files in it.

Shit, I need to do this. I'm fairly new to fandom (2 years really?) so I guess I'm spoiled and oblivious as to how it used to be. I should just copy and paste this one fic I keep bitching about being unable to read.

Nah, I got into the habit because the family computer was the only one with internet access and this was the days of dial-up and phone bills. Once I discovered that I could save web pages as txt files, I started minimizing the time spent online by saving fic that looked promising on a floppy and reading it on my own computer.
