Wow, Sarah/Jareth looks positively fluffy compared to a lot of these.

Seeing as how he never killed anyone and is most famous for doing a silly dance in extremely tight pants, I kind of boggle at his being included at all...?

He's an older male who is powerful (in some way) and cunning. Oh, and he offers her the world/life of comfort/everything she could every wish for if she chooses him. That's the gist of most of them. How much Jareth falls into the manipulative bastard and general asshole territory is more up for debate. (I'd say he's kinda manipulative bastard, but that more a virtue of being goblin king than his motivations towards Sarah...at least in the beginning. But yeah, he's still one of the least terrible guys on the list.)

Mm ... I've seen more men in fandom insisting Jareth is a bastard than women. By miles and miles. And while you can make a decent argument for that little speech at the end being pure mindfuckery - him insincerely saying whatever he thought would make Sarah uncertain - most of what I've seen guys criticize Jareth for seems more based on "shit, I don't want hot girls crushing on him" than it is on canon. Granted, I lurked the old Labyrinth fansites, and I'm guessing people who interpreted him as callous and creepy didn't. But the other males in this secret (that I recognize) are considerably more willing to let bad things happen to their love interest than Jareth is. In the case of Frollo and Voldemort, they see no reason for her to exist, if she isn't serving their purposes. Jareth isn't in that category at all.
