I was brought into the fandom by a female fan. She posts on Fimfiction, and I've never seen anyone there give her shit for being female. There are definitely sexists on that site, but they seem to congregate to specific subsections (typically clopfic and fic about Spike) and ignore everyone else.

That said, I've heard EQD is terrible.

OP might be referring to the incident where a well-known brony raped an underaged girl, and a shit!ton of bronies slut-shammed her. All the while they defended the rapist because ~he was horny~! So what if he refused to leave her car until she did a sexual favor for him? Ugh! She's just a slut anyway! (There were far worse comments, but you get the gist of it)

I heard of that and was angry. I showed it to some friends -guys who were part of the MLP fanbase and they were furious too. So not everyone who's older and likes MLP defends him, if that gives anyone hope.

The little bits of browsing I've done on EQD have been fine, and I've heard other people say they really like it and know people who really like it. I've also heard one or two instances of people saying they've found nasty stuff there but I haven't seen it?

Maybe it has good and bad subsections? idk.
