Not all adult fans are bronies! Some of us aren't terrible. Try not to let that (admittedly loud and large-ish) section of the fandom ruin your enjoyment of a great show.

I know of at least one Pony comm that might be up your alley, if you're interested...

I was brought into the fandom by a female fan. She posts on Fimfiction, and I've never seen anyone there give her shit for being female. There are definitely sexists on that site, but they seem to congregate to specific subsections (typically clopfic and fic about Spike) and ignore everyone else.

That said, I've heard EQD is terrible.

I will never understand why people let fandom ruin things for them like this. I'd get if you were in the fandom before but...

At any rate, this should be easy. Watch episodes, do nothing more involved with MLP. I mean, there's still a lot of places you could go where you'd avoid the dregs of the fandom, but that's a pretty safe way nearly risk free.

Look, LOTS of adults like this show - it's nothing to be ashamed of!! Not all adult fans are bronies, either (and not all bronies are terrible people but how many times have we gone through this) (but be careful of the ones you meet on the internet because they might be terrible, some of them really, horribly are)

Anyway please don't be ashamed! I think it's awesome that so many people like the show regardless of age or gender.

Because of the vocal minority and what people say about MLP fans I've become afraid of people fincing I write MLP fic. Liking MLP has become such a big deal lately on the internet and I think it's stupid.

I like MLP. Big deal. I also like Danny Phantom, Fairly OddParents , Pokemon, and a slew of other cartoon shows. If someone's going to judge me for liking one cartoons why don't they judge me for just liking cartoons? I see some people nowadays who seem to love blurting out how they think liking cartoons is something pedophiles do. Which is stupid and fucked up to accuse someone of but also...why was no one giving me grief about this when I was a 14 year old girl who still liked the Fairly Oddparents?

I'm not sure what the big deal is. So some people who like the show are awful. That's true of every show. You really don't have to interact with them if you don't want to. Equestria Daily is a good place if you just want fanworks roundups and news without the dramz (so far as I've seen, anyway).

And to everyone in this thread, I'm not going to stop calling myself a brony just because there are bad bronies out there. You can deal.

It just means you're a fan. Watch the show, maybe collect a figure or two, and that's it. No need to feel like you're associated with that fuck stain, neckbeard group.

Like the show for what it is and stay away from the Bronies.

And anyone who tries to tell you Bronies "aren't all that bad!!!/we're not all like that!!" stay the hell away from them.

I'm an adult female fan of MLP, and I find it easier to enjoy the show when I stay far, far away from the bronies and the rest of the fandom. They keep going on about "love and tolerance," but they don't remotely practice what they preach, and aren't worth my time or your time.

And if it's anything, the person who got me into it was my fiancé, and he can't stand the fandom either. We can just discuss it amongst ourselves (and give each other the toys), and that's good enough.

You can completely enjoy the show without associating with the bronies. I'm a fan (a grown woman) and I don't really dabble much into the larger fandom. (bronies are a small, rabid, moronic section) I don't even go into it that much with the few people in the larger fandom, it's just nice to know there are a few of us who are sane.

I got into the Hunger Games because my sister recommended them to me and thought it had a lot of cool dysotopian world building. I stick my toe in fandom....

What I've told some of my friends is that MLP: Friendship is Magic became so popular by being [i]exactly[/i] what it claims to be -- a cute show for twelve year old girls. I don't think it got the adult fandom by inserting hidden adult content; I think it got the adult fandom because it's adorable, the character studies are more realistic than most personality tests that I know, and there are some stories that don't lose their appeal for any ages.

(Me? I'm a 32 year old woman who has done, um, an awful lot of the same things Twilight Sparkle does, and who passed around pony buttons to all her coworkers after Equestria LA last year and pony valentines a few days ago. :D All my coworkers make fun of me, but it's kind of the office joke now that there are two of us with ponies all over our desks and MLP work IM avatars.)

(The fandom isn't all composed of horrible people, really. I think in every fandom, there's a fringe where all the awful stuff you describes happens. All of MLP fandom that I've met have been composed of nice, creative people, both guys and girls.)

O.P, I implore you to give bronies a chance. It's not fair to write off a whole group of people as "all treating their female fans like..." and I know you want to be fair.

Even if you don't go actively searching for bronies or anything like that, just know that there are good people out there who also identify themselves as "bronies".

I don't have any reason to be invested in this except that I've met two or three bronies online who were nice to me, and I also know two self-identified bronies in real life, neither of which conduct their fandom business online. One of them I proudly call my brother (though we don't share blood). Other than that, I just have a natural aversion to people being unfairly lumped into one group.

It actually makes me really sad that the bad part of the fandom has kind of co-opted the term "brony", because I actually thought it was a really cute, fun name for the fandom (same with "pegasister"). :(

Either way, don't let the bad bits of the fandom get you down TOO much, OP! It's a great show, and if you like it yourself...good for you!

Wasn't there a term for female fans? "pegasisters" or something? I always thought that was pretty cute, but is that a term that's been tainted too. A secret sect of the MLP fandom that's like the bad Brony section only girls.

Help me fandom secrets you're my only hope.

I never got involved in the fandom but I have a dude in my Japanese class who talks to me the entire hour I wait before class (I have another class before it and then an hour break and then Japanese) about MLP stuff and how i need to catch up and watch stuff etc etc. I don't think I've ever heard him call himself a brony but. He's kind of annoying.

Oddly enough his enthusiasm has made me want to watch more so I have an idea of what he's talking about instead of going "/awkward laugh" and "uh-huh, yeah" to everything he says.

I think the bad parts of the MLP fandom get heavily exaggerated. Maybe I'm just lucky or whatever, but I'm a girl and I haven't been given crap in this fandom. It's actually one of my favorite fandoms to participate in.
