I had this same reaction to "If". Sure, it was pre-Columbine, but it was post-University of Texas, and I can't imagine what the filmmakers were thinking when they presented a school shooting as a liberating form of rebellion.

Didn't realize it was quite that old. UoT was in 1966, but Wikipedia indicates "If" was first conceived in 1960. Still, there were students shooting teachers at least as far back as the 1850s.
