Killing random guys is cool though.

Women are strange, mysterious, innocent creatures who inhabit a separate sphere and should be shielded from the deranged violence of obnoxious revenge fantasy films.

Please research --> all slasher films made past 1965 and think real hard about this argument.

No, I don't live under a rock. However the secret we are discussing lumps women in with teens and children.

If they actually targeted misogyny I wouldn't have a problem with the OP's complaint.

And you lost me at "'Murica." (What type of people use that term anyway? I want to know. You know it's insulting. Why go out of your way to use it if not only to troll?)

And as far as the movie goes like you said, it's a satire. (And, IMHO, a pretty good satire.) And you've missed the point of it.

You know, I heard so much hype about Reddit that when I finally went to it to see what all the fuss was about I was disappointed. It was like a more civilized, less X-rated, less anime 4chan. I don't get it.

Reddit uses 'MURICA like it's the funniest, edgiest joke in the world. We get it, you're all American fifteen year old suburban kids who want to rebel against the man. It's come around to the point of being a parody of a parody of a parody... which is still not funny.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-26 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
And you've missed the point of the S!B. Pretty sure the fact that it's insulting is the very reason why OP used the term.

Also, what's it with you and getting so OTT offended about slang words for America/Americans? Like with the "USian" thing over the weekend, or whatever that was.
mekkio: (Default)

[personal profile] mekkio 2013-02-26 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Do you not get those slang words are insulting and are meant to be insulting otherwise they wouldn't be used?

Like calling an Irish person "mick" or an Italian a "wop."

It's only polite to call people what they want to be called. USian is not highly favored or known within the US and can be seen as spitting on a term Americans didn't even give themselves. It is rather unusual in this day and age for people to go about changing what people call themselves in their own language (estadosunidense has long been popular in Spanish, which makes the term even more aggravating for some).

'Murica in particular has connotations of rural, uneducated, conservative Americans so it stands to reason that the average American would prefer not to have their country called such.

When you see somebody riding their fat ass into Wal-Mart in a little cart instead of walking, that's Murica.

;P It is pretty much a troll thing.

I couldn't look past the multiple bad apostrophes to see what this secret was actually about.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-26 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
That's how I felt when I read 'A Modest Proposal.' Oh sure it's supposed to be satire, but goossssh eating babies? That's not right!

Neither is being starved to death despite growing enough food to feed everyone. It was a harsh satire that fit the even harsher time.

But, truth be told, I couldn't help but think of Swift too when I read this secret.

I don't think A Modest Proposal is supposed to be funny satire. It's supposed to be grim.

I had this same reaction to "If". Sure, it was pre-Columbine, but it was post-University of Texas, and I can't imagine what the filmmakers were thinking when they presented a school shooting as a liberating form of rebellion.

I agree. It may have been satire, but we were meant to sympathise with the leads, if not agree with them. Instead, I found them to be self-righteous sociopaths.

...Yeah, I'll just say it. I did not get this movie. What was the message behind it. What was it trying to say. It was just this really tedious thing to watch and I don't see the point of it or what it was satirizing or what? Sometimes I don't think I even understand what "satire" means?

Use small words please, if you reply.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-26 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have anything to say. I just wanted to make this joke. But not enough to come up with something to say KTHNXBAI!

What bugged me the most about that movie is just how one-sided it was, and how just...un-clever it was. A satire like that has to be clever. It wasn't. It was more like being hit upside the head with a two by four with exposition (which, by the way, was THE ONLY FUCKING WAY most of the story progressed, as I recall). There wasn't one redeeming quality about anyone. Everyone else was a selfish asshole, but the main characters just came off as self-righteous assholes, too.

Yeah fuck you for pretty much everything in this secret.

Ps i dont hate america.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-26 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's catharsis. Everyone has dealt with inconsiderate assholes who don't give a shit about anybody else. Everyone has seen spoiled children whose parents just pamper them because it's easier to do that than to actually discipline them. Everyone has seen the Westboro Baptist Church.

I mean, I didn't really like the movie. I thought Frank was a chickenshit before he started going nuts on people, and his entire shitty life was because of that. But the movie is just supposed to be stupid, cathartic bullshit, and you see people who are assholes getting unceremoniously murdered. That's all there is to it.
