messy issue here.

first of all, no one in DN is 100% good. everyone is a certain shade of gray. misa was used, yes, but she was conscious of what she was doing and, as people pointed out in this thread, she killed people before meeting light. she had a dark past, and her most beloved person used her like a tool, but that doesn't excuse her of her actions.

theeeeeen again, even if everyone in that series has their issues, why does most of the fandom target her? first, she's a girl. a girl dating light. who nearly all the yaoi fangirl fandom ships with L. it's the same that happens to kairi in kingdom hearts, for example. but then, i think there's something else: misa acts very, very different to the rest of the characters. she's very smart, yeah, but her "kawaii" ways, use of third person, etc, contrast a lot to the rest of the intelectual, more serious characters. i think that's why a lot of people are annoyed by her.

i quite like Misa, despite recognizing her flaws, i still find her cool, and well, i have something for "cute yet twisted and deadly" characters like her. i love L, too. it depends on the person. and that's what makes DN so interesting - everyone makes something different out of it. and that's okay.

Do people hate Misa because she gets in the way of L/Light? I don't think that's really fair because Light/Misa doesn't exist. Misa does not have a canon relationship with everyone. The source material is very clear that Light doesn't like Misa, and Misa knows that. She's not ignorant that Light is using her, she begs him to do it.

Does she get picked on because she's a girl? I think that's possible, sure, fandom is sexist, that's nothing new. But frankly, she's got a lot of traits that are going to annoy a lot of people - the cutesy lolita act, the jealousy and pettiness, stalking Light to literally "I'll kill any girl you date" levels (which is pretty terrifying, tbh). I don't think she's actually stupid, she's clever when she puts her mind to something, but her ditzy act would personally annoy me irl.

so I think Misa hate is not surprising and probably not only because she's a girl. I think, though, that all the hate Takada got was more sexist than that.

go tell that to the fujoshi :/ i used to be a huge L/Light shipper baaaaaack in the day (and i still love that ship), so i was around those circles and... yeah, misa got quite a lot of flak because of that. i saw it with my own eyes, dude. you're right, it was a very messy relationship. do the crazy fangirls care? nope. granted, havent been in the fandom in ages, so maybe that has changed... and i'd be thankful if it were the case.

yeah, that's what i said :/ her personality and quirks didn't help the case much. she only *seemed* to be a ditz, she was actually very smart and she knew exactly what she was doing. doesn't change the fact she was still a tool for light tho.

yeah, i agree on that. sigh, fandom.
