Questions About The Closer Fandom

(Anonymous) 2013-02-26 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I just marathoned my way through the series, and while I'm not interested into getting into fandom for it, I'm really interested in what the fandom for it is like.

Is the fandom big or small? Crazy or moderately sane?

Are there ship wars? Which are the most popular ships?

What episodes/scenes are most controversial? When do people declare shark-jumping, if they do?

Also, is Major Crimes worth watching? Thanks to anyone who can answer these questions!

The fandom is pretty small. I love the show but don't go out of my way to be fannish about it. The most popular ship is probably Brenda/Sharon, but you won't get a LOT of ship warring. I think Brenda/Fritz is my all-time favorite canon ships, but I do like me some femslash, so it's out there if you want it.

Major Crimes is worth watching! I like Raydor as a lead more than I was expecting. The new detective (Sykes, I think her name is?) is kind of boring but I expect they'll find more to do with her. The crime stories and direction are very much in the same style as the Closer, which makes sense since it's the same production team. I think they do show more flashbacks and footage of the crime taking place; something that was starting to be more common in the later seasons of the Closer but which usually just started with the team showing up at the scene. The biggest difference is that while Brenda specialized in confessions, Raydor is more interested in getting convictions, so the legal side is more present than it was in the Closer.

I love The Closer but i've never had a real interest in the fandom for it. Sorry i'm no help there.

But Major Crimes is definitely worth your while! I loved Capt. Raydor from the first moment she came into the show, so seeing her get a 'starring' role is excellent, and the cases are also interesting and well done.

The Closer mostly had an older audience (over 40) than most shows that develop a fandom, so the fandom is really small. But Major Crimes is fantastic and everyone should watch it.
