Okay, first off, everyone starts off as a virgin. Gay, straight, bi, ace, we're all born virgins and if someone wishes to have a sexual experience, at least one of those experiences will be the first time.

Personally, I like the happy awkwardness of first times in fic. Not necessarily "virgin" fics, though it includes that, but two characters' first experiences with each other. There's experimental touches and kisses, finding out what works and what doesn't between them, with the assumption there will be other times in the future to perfect it and discover more. By not including these kinds of moments in the first sex scene between two characters, you're whittling their relationship down to tab-A-in-slot-B (or whichever combination fits the circumstance), they've had sex before so obviously they're Casanovas and everything works out perfect, and that's incredibly boring to me.
