Oooh, I got a knitting loom for Christmas and I have yet to bust it out. Mostly because I'm concerned that the loom won't make knitting any easier for me.

I should make myself a long-ass scarf. Well, try to make myself a long-ass scarf.

OP, have you seen the Czech movie Zelary? Based on this secret, you would definitely love it!

Although it does show Soviet soldier at the end of WWII in a less than positive light... so be warned.

I LOVE Three Days, and I would read it every day if I had the time. The rest of them are good, but that one is long and has a happy-ish ending without completely ruining the characterization, so it gets the ultimate rec from me.

Oh man, the wigs! Especially the way Philip seems to be able to change hairstyles and even face-styles (to some extent) at the drop of a hat! :D

Interesting!

I heard the reason Celestia wasn't a queen was because queens in cartoons are almost always evil, and they didn't want people thinking that would be the case with Celestia, so they decided to make her a princess instead.

Though honestly, she seems very queen-like, and it's obvious she's not on the same level as other princesses in the show, given she's effectively some kind of sun deity.

I love The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series. Each one is fairly short and made up of a series of short chapters that usually tell a self-contained story, some of which link in to the primary story arc of the book. This makes them easy to pick up for for short periods.

I guess I'm the only one who read this and thought OP meant that's how they envision Pagan Loki in female form.

le sigh. You dem kids on my lawn, and all that.

Severide and Shay in Chicago Fire. SVU's Benson and Stabler. Joan and Sherlock from Elementary. Jack and Liz from 30 Rock. Natasha and Clint in Avengers (though I kind of ship them, too >.>). And so on.

hahaha, I love how the pic was originally a Warhammer 40k Space Marine

Aww they were the only couple I shipped in Harry Potter, it hit me right in the age-gap kink, and I honestly cried over the last book. Not least because Remus was my favourite.

To each their own OP.

Desolation of Smaug, Star Trek: Into Darkness, all the Marvel movies, Catching Fire and Fast and Furious 6 (they're good popcorn movies, okay?). That's all I think.

Oh, it's not the camp that bothers me, it's how they started out faithful to Canon, then when they realized 90% of the fandom had never read ACD and had no intentions of doing so, they proceeded to eviscerate Canon and started going for cheap laughs like the Rathbone movies.

I don't know about real life implications, but it seemed like such a cliché or a cop out in-story. I can see why Alicorn!Twilight has its appeal in fanfiction, but you see it once, and that's enough. It really does feel like a Disney ending cliché, or something.

I really would prefer a very powerful Twilight as a unicorn than as an Alicorn. It feels more special that way.

Really? You can just switch off thoughts, like that? Never get a song stuck in your head, or keep thinking about something you don't want to? You might be a robot.

The condescension is noted, but not necessary.

Also, it's not thoughts, but physical attraction we're talking about here.

I guess it's when you feel like you don't want to feel the way you do, but the way the piece of fiction was crafted makes you feel that way against your will. Like, when there's no reason for an element to exist in a story except to provide an emotional response at the desired moment, and it's done in a way that's immediately noticeable.

Basically, if you can imagine the writer rubbing his hands and going "mwa-ha-ha what do I pull out of my ass and drop into this story to play these suckers' heartstrings?" that's manipulative. If you instead imagine the writer looking the purposeful, meaningful, organic elements of a story and going "oooooh, if I adjusted this a bit, it'd be ten times sadder than it already is!" it's not manipulative.

A lot of this is massively YMMV, of course. Plus, there's always some instances where you see a scene and you know it's manipulative, but don't really care or get offended because it still affects you.

There really isn't enough Russian culture/life in it to qualify for the former reason, IMO. Lots of good Russian language, though.

But you still had the initial "That person is attractive!" reaction. Even if you push it out of your mind from then onwards, the feeling was involuntary to begin with. That's the part you cannot control.
